President’s Message

Greetings,

I hope everyone is enjoying the warm weather and time with your family and friends this summer!

As usual with Chicago weather, we are dealing with the extremes — this time the heat and humidity. I’m sure your HVAC systems are being put to the test and running constantly with the heat. It’s important to keep our tenants comfortable, but it can often be a challenge and our equipment can be strained and fail. Our members are your best resources for these situations. The Associate members are the best in the business and are there for you even in a pinch. Don’t forget to check the website (www.chiefengineer.org) as well as your Quick Shopper that was sent out in June to find all industry contacts.  Your fellow Active members are a great resource as well. The relationships you build with others in the organization can help when you need references, advice or recommendations. Our organization values the strong bonds we build in the industry. We are all part of the same proud industry family.

While it’s hard to imagine now with temperatures in the 90s, don’t that forget winter is basically around the corner. When referencing our Associate members for summer repairs, now is a good time to contact them for maintenance on your boilers and heating systems. There is a lot of maintenance that needs to be done on these systems and now is the perfect time to service them. This process ensures that our equipment is ready to go when the weather changes. Like I mentioned above, climate control is a very important aspect of our job, solidifying tenant comfort and satisfaction.

We are well into the planning stages of the 78th annual golf outing on September 14th at Cog Hill Golf Course! We are on pace for another record-setting outing. Be sure to get your reservations in as soon as possible — the courses are filling up fast! Email [email protected] to reserve your foursomes and sponsorships. This is one of my favorite events of the year! I can’t wait to see you all out on the course. A big shout-out to the golf committee for all of the hours of planning that goes into this event. As our biggest event of the year, it takes countless hours and effort to execute this event successfully. Thank you all for your dedication.

I hope you continue to have a wonderful summer!

Sincerely,

President’s Messag

Greetings,

We are finally in the midst of the warm weather we have been waiting for since the frigid temperatures of January. And just as you would expect, the Chicago extremes are in effect with these 90-degree days. The climate in Chicago keeps us on our toes, and as engineers and vendors, we constantly need to be prepared. With the help of our Associate members, you should be making sure your cooling towers are clean and chemically treated, economizers and dampers are functioning properly and your fan belts aren’t broken or worn. With anticipation and preparation for the extremes, we can rest assured that our buildings will run properly. Also, keeping your facility up to date and fixing minor problems as they arise prevent costly repairs in the future. Be sure to reference your Quick Shopper when using vendors. This list includes all of our Associate members by specialty. They are the best in the business!

The next event for the Chief Engineers Association is the 78nd Annual Golf Outing on September 14th at Cog Hill Golf Club. Sponsorship and foursomes are still available so contact the office at (708) 293-1720 to reserve your spot. This is our largest event of the year, providing endless networking opportunities and a fun day for all members and guests. I look forward to seeing you all there.

This month, as we all prepare to celebrate the 4th of July with family and friends, I ask that you keep our service men and women in your thoughts and prayers. They sacrifice their time with loved ones to ensure our freedom and safety. From the bottom of my heart I thank all those who serve this great nation we live in.

I look forward to our next meeting season with the upcoming golf outing. I hope you continue to enjoy the summer and I will see you in September.

Sincerely,

Daniel T. Carey

Greetings Members,

What a great day we had for the annual barbecue event at Local 399 for the May meeting! Perfect weather, delicious food, and the fantastic sounds of The Boils truly made the evening a success. I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge our wonderful sponsors for the evening, Able Engineering, Air Comfort, CAT 5 Restoration, F.E. Moran, Neuco Inc and W.J. O’Neil. We are lucky as an organization to have such dedicated members who support our events through sponsorship and attendance.

Also at the May event we pulled the winner of the Harley Raffle. Pete Coyle was the lucky winner this year! Only a limited number of tickets are sold for this raffle, providing participants with pretty good odds. Thank you to all who bought tickets. Proceeds from this raffle are allocated toward providing valuable events for our members as well as contributions to the scholarship fund for college students and trades certifications.

While we take a break from our regularly sponsored events during the summer, the board members still meet monthly to continue planning for the months ahead. If there is any feedback that you would like to provide to improve our offerings, please feel free to reach out to myself or to any of the board members. You can also reach out to Alex Boerner ([email protected]) and she will bring the feedback to the board. To submit your feedback anonymously, please visit the ‘Comments and Suggestions’ link on the website.

During the summer, we are also hard at work on the 78th Annual Golf Outing. Sign-ups are open and we are taking reservations, please email [email protected] to participate! This is our largest event of the year, filling all four courses at Cog Hill Golf Course. One of my favorite events of the year, this outing is great for networking and seeing your best industry friends.

In closing, I would like to remind you to utilize the Associate members for your maintenance and repair needs. They are such important resources and leaders in the industry. We are lucky to have them as valued partners of the organization.

Have a great start to the summer!

Sincerely,

Daniel T. Carey
