The Chief Engineers Association of Chicagoland is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(6), fraternal organization comprised of men and women in leadership positions within the field of power engineering and real estate asset management.

For over 90 years, the Chief Engineers Association has brought educational services, information and camaraderie to its members through the publication of the Chief Engineer magazine, educational meetings and social gatherings throughout the Chicago area. The Chief Engineer magazine is published monthly and has a list of subscribers from throughout the United States and Canada.

Membership in the Chief Engineers Association is open to individuals who work within the industries of power engineering and/or real estate asset management and who serve in supervisory positions. Members pay a one-time petition fee of $30.00, and dues of $100.00 per year. Associate members pay $30.00 per year. All members receive an annual subscription to the Chief Engineer magazine delivered monthly to their home or office, an invitation to attend monthly educational meetings where cocktails and dinner are always served, and the opportunity to attend other social activities, such as the annual picnic, at no additional cost to active members and for a $50 dinner and drink fee for Associate Members. In addition, members have the opportunity of attending other Association activities such as the Annual Golf Outing, the Gala Dinner Dance and the Association Vendor Fair.

Proceeds obtained from advertising, subscriptions and dues pay for administration of the organization, educational meetings, and fund the Lois and Ernie Wolff Scholarship Program. This program provides 4-year scholarships to students each year. Scholarships are awarded based upon merit and are open to any student attending, or planning to attend a 4-year college or university. Students need not be related to a member nor associated with the Chief Engineers Association to apply. Information pertaining to scholarships may be obtained from the Association by contacting us via email, letter or telephone.

The Chief Engineers Association also provides Associate Membership to the organization to manufacturers, distributors and consultants. Associate Membership permits attendance at all Association functions, and allows networking and information exchange between Active Members and Associate Members. Companies and organizations employing Associate Members are required to advertise within the Chief Engineer magazine and/or upon the Chief Engineer website. Companies and organizations may be provided the opportunity to co-sponsor educational meetings where they may introduce new products and/or technology to the membership in attendance.

The Association is operated through a volunteer Board of Directors, comprised of elected members of the Association. Each Active Member of the Association has a vote in all elections to the Board of Directors. Associate Members may not vote in elections of board members nor upon motions made at meetings of the Association. Members of the Board of Directors serve without compensation throughout their term in office, and generally devote 20 hours or more of service to the Association each month.

A professional staff is maintained to run the day-to-day activities of the Association and to publish the Chief Engineer magazine.

The motto of the Association is: “Anything that can be done, can be done better.” This motto epitomizes the philosophy of the Association that through education and hard work, we can together advance our profession, and improve upon providing safe and productive environments for the tenants and fellow workers within our facilities.
