President’s Message February 2018

Greetings Members,

As I write this message, we are currently experiencing one of those weather weeks that make Chicago so unique. We have seen just about every season within a seven-day period: warmth and rain, plummeting temperatures, dangerous ice, snow, and even some sunshine. This fluctuation can be tough on us as engineers and on our buildings. We have to constantly adjust our controls for these changing conditions. This can cause issues such as leaks, bursting pipes and temperature-regulation problems for our tenants. I urge you to use yo

ur resources wisely and reach out to our Associate vendor members for assistance with these issues. They are experts at what they do, and they are a valuable resource in times of need. They are also available in cases where we can be proactive and conduct preventative maintenance. Thank you to all of our vendors for partnering with our chiefs to provide excellent service. The relationship between members is what the organization is built on.

This past January we celebrated the Installation Dinner Dance and welcomed the board into their new positions for the 2018-2019 term. What a party! Thanks to all who attended and supported the board as they took their oath. I would also like to take this time to congratulate our award winners. We honor three individuals for their continued commitment to the association in the following categories. The Lifetime Member Award was presented to Neil Reidy, the Man of the Year was presented to John McDonagh, and V

endor of the Year to Mike Devito of Air Comfort. A round of applause for all!

Don’t forget that this month is our annual Skatefest event, taking place on February 18th, free to all members and their families! We have made a few changes to the event this year. Note that we will be taking to the ice on a Sunday, AND we have moved to a brand-new indoor facility, the Morgan Park Sports Center (11505 S. Western, Chicago, IL 60647). I look forward to seeing you all there and spending time with your wonderful families! We are happy to provide an event that includes your loved ones — they support your involvement year round in our organization.

See you on the ice!
