President’s Message March 2014

As you read this message, March has arrived and spring is in the air. This winter was one of the worst in the last thirty years. If it wasn’t the sixty plus inches of snow, it was the extreme cold temps and wind chills reminding us to appreciate our summer months.

The challenges in our careers are enormous and very stressful ensuring our equipment keeps running with minimal down time. Our number one goal in this brutal weather is heating our facilities and making sure our pipes don’t freeze. It seems hard to conceive of with the polar vortex still in full effect, but we also need to ensure our cooling systems have been serviced at this time and are ready for operation during the upcoming months.

As we watched the 2014 Winter Olympics this past month, CEAC held its 4th annual Skatefest on Saturday February 22nd. This event was free to all our members and their families. 2014’s Skatefest was a huge success and a wonderful time was had by all. Thanks to Tom Phillips and his Skatefest Committee for all their hard work and efforts.

Also in February, the Board of Directors attended our annual retreat. At this retreat, we met to determine ways to ensure our future growth, our financial stability and plan this year’s education meetings. The 2014 CEAC educational meetings will start off with our annual St. Patrick’s corn beef dinner scheduled for Wednesday March 19th, 2014 at the Irish American Heritage Center.

March’s dinner meeting is usually one of the largest turnouts and we recommend you register early to ensure easier entry when checking in. I look forward to seeing everyone at this festive meeting.
Also on this year’s monthly meeting’s agenda, is our Vendor Fair on April 16th, our Vendor Appreciation Dinner on May 7th and our monthly May meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 21st where our popular Harley Raffle will take place once again.

Another way to keep the membership and organization growing is to utilize our Associate members when completing projects in your facilities. Reference the January Quick Shopper which was sent out recently or visit the website (, which has members listed constantly. Please remember to tell the Associate member you found them through the Chief Engineers Association.

And finally, let’s not forget the men and women, who are serving our nation for our freedom and protection. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
