President’s Message October 2012

The monthly meeting season started this past month with The 72nd Annual Golf Outing. I couldn’t have asked for better weather! The beautiful day combined with the support of our members and vendors truly made the event a success. I would like to take this time to thank all that attended the event, the generous sponsors, and the committee for  their hard work in making this outing one of the best yet.

The next event is the annual Oktoberfest hosted at Local 399 on October 17th. This is another very well attended and fun event. These functions are a great way to connect with vendors and learn about their products and services. Don’t forget to check out our sponsors’ tables at the events to see their latest offers.

With the changing of the leaves and the cooler temperatures, I think it’s safe to say fall is finally here, which means winter is not far behind. I expect that you took advantage of the time in the summer months to service and clean your boiler and heating equipment. With the variable and sometimes unexpected temperatures we experience in Chicago, you must be prepared for anything Mother Nature is going to throw at us.

Fall also provides operators an opportunity to save on heating and cooling expenses if their buildings utilize cooling economizer systems. These systems use the cool, outdoor air to supplement their systems and delay the start time on their chillers. This reduces energy consumption and extends the life of the chiller while netting significant savings.

Please keep our Associate Members in mind during maintenance periods and when ordering supplies. Not only are they a great resource for specific materials and services, but they can also assist in the development of operating enhancement programs and replacement cost analysis for justifying capital expenditures.

I hope all that attended the golf outing had a wonderful time and I look forward to seeing you all at the next meeting.
