Protecting the environment does not simply mean saving energy at Arturo Velasquez, it also means using eco-friendly cleaning materials and reducing the use of aerosol products for building maintenance. Bob explained how the facility has turned to the use of concentrates for cleaning so as to reduce packaging and storage and strive to use organic ingredients whenever possible.
Two Cleaver Brooks, 125 BHp, fire-tube, boilers provide heating service for the facility and three, 39.5 ton, Carrier, R-22 chillers furnish the air conditioning. Two, A.O. Smith 150 gallon, stage fired water heaters provide domestic hot water and rooftop, air-cooled condensers and Liebert package units provide supplemental cooling throughout the 175,000 square foot facility.
Located on seventeen and a-half acres, the facility’s ventilation is provided through nine air-handlers feeding 300 VAV boxes.
Arturo Velasquez Institute is a model for meeting the needs of a new generation of Chicagoans as well as a model for providing urban services at a minimal cost environmentally.
