The Chicagoland Roofing Council (CRC) and Local 11 work at staying experts in roofing, waterproofing, air barriers and keeping America’s buildings protected and dry. Together they have presented education sessions on building and fire code requirements, reflective, ballasted, garden, wind and photovoltaic rooftop systems, and more. Roofers Local #11, the US’ largest roofing union, has over 2200 skilled craftsman to professionally install various roofing and waterproofing systems. Local 11 has a long history of success since forming in 1945 on everything from steep slope shingles, slate, tile systems, to low sloped built-up, modified bitumen and single ply systems to waterproofing and air barriers. CRC and Local 11 have presented continuing education as a service to the industry to those who manage and maintain roofs, as well as architects, specifiers, building officials, and fire inspectors.

Together, CRC and Local 11 manage The Chicagoland Roofer’s Joint Apprenticeship and Training Program. An apprentice is a worker who learns a skilled trade through planned, supervised, on-the-job training, related classroom instruction and hands-on training. An apprentice is a regular part of the work force and earns wages while acquiring important skills. The length of the roofing apprenticeship is five years and 5500 on-the-job training hours. At the completion of the program, an apprentice becomes a journeyman, fully qualified to perform the work of the roofing trade and earns the industry top pay for their skill. The program is approved by the Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training and approved by The Veterans Administration for VA school benefits to eligible Veterans. the Chicagloand Roofers Apprenticeship Center trains Apprentices for over 135 Union Signatory Contractors, many of which belong to the Chicago Roofing Contractors Association, The Midwest Roofing Contractors Association and the National Roofing contractors Association.
