And that is when we have to put our faith and trust in a roofing contractor. And that is where trained, experienced, and licensed roofing contractors should come in. And that is where Chicagoland Roofing Council (CRC) comes in and we place our trust on the CRC providing us with reliable choices.

Rod Petrick, Industry Affairs Chair of CRC, reminds us “there are literally thousands of roof assemblies to choose from in the market. With many manufacturers of roofing membranes, insulation, fasteners, coatings, adhesives, then the surfacing options of gravel, ballast, photovoltaic, vegetation, pavers, the roof system choices seem endless”.

Insulation provides payback, vegetative roof gardens keep excess water out of the cities drainage and water treatment systems, photovoltaic panels generate electricity and reflective roofs provide lower rooftop temperatures in the summer.

All of these systems listed above are referred to as “green” roofs. The systems are helping to reduce the Urban Heat Island (UHI) Effect that arrives every summer in cities and towns like Chicago.
