President’s Message August 2011

Angelo Saccameno, President

I hope you all are enjoying the warm summer weather and time with your family and friends. It’s hard to believe that fall and winter are right around the corner!

As Chiefs, we need to be cognizant of the upcoming winter months. Taking full advantage of summer, I’m sure that many of you are well past the development and planning stages and have now begun implementing heat system maintenance and repair work and even possibly conducting replacement projects on your heating systems. Fine-tuning these systems during the scheduled windows of opportunity will only enhance the overall performance of each individual asset. Be sure to utilize the expertise of our Associate members and vendors as you move through your respective work. As we all know, the support of the Associate members is only in an effort to ensure a smooth transition into the next seasonal change. When you use the Associate member services please be sure to mention you heard about them through the Chief Engineers Association.

Being a Chief Engineer often times requires one to have a skill set beyond those of a shift engineer. A Chief Engineer not only has to tend to the everyday maintenance and monitoring of a building and plan ahead for seasonal upkeep, but he needs to have excellent communication skills. He needs to correspond with his crew and also with building management, company upper management and with the clients of the building. Good customer service is imperative to accommodate the tenants. Especially in today’s economy, we need to go above and beyond the basic requirements to secure our positions. Remember when working with others communication is key! It keeps everyone on the same page and allows your building to run efficiently.

The annual golf outing on September 16, 2011 will resume our monthly meetings for the year. If you were not able to secure a spot to golf or sponsor a hole, we would still love to see you at the dinner. Tickets can be purchased the day of the outing or by calling the office at 708-293-1720. Hope to see you all there to kick-start the meeting season!

For parents of high school students entering their senior year, as the school year progresses and your college searches begin be sure to keep in mind the CEAC scholarship is available to all. A scholarship packet will be sent out in the coming months. With the current state of the economy we hope to be able to reduce some of the financial burden parents of college-bound students will experience.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Angelo Saccameno
President, CEAC
