Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center Furthers Preservation Mission Through Sustainability Measures

Evette Simon, the acting executive director of the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center, draws a parallel between preserving the legacy of the Holocaust by combatting indifference and preserving the environment through maintaining a conscientiously sustainable facility.

“We want to be upstanders and encourage people to be responsible,” Simon said about the Skokie museum. “Being sustainable is being responsible in our view.”

The U.S. Green Building Association rewarded the Museum’s efforts with LEED Gold certification January 29, 2013. It is the second Chicagoland museum to receive the certification, following the Field Museum, according to a press release from the Illinois Holocaust Museum regarding the certification.
