You can’t spend over a half century as a leader in your profession without impacting the entire industry in which you serve. So when we learned that Walter C. Dobson, the Chief Engineer at Citicorp Plaza was retiring after 54 years as a Stationary Engineer and Chief Engineer, we had to make a special trip there to speak to a man who not only witnessed enumerable changes that took place in the profession, but also played a significant role in bringing about several of those changes.
Born in 1937, Walter got his start as a Stationary Fireman working under his father, who was Chief Engineer at Central Steam Laundry at 315 W. Grand Avenue in Chicago. In his off time, he took classes at night in Arc and Gas Welding and attended IUOE, Local 399 training classes.1 2 3 4 5 6 next >>
