Engineered Corrosion Solutions – March 13, 2014
Calder Flamingo Sculpture in Federal Plaza is another example of successful long-term coating applications, standing up to the environmental conditions of hot, muggy Chicago summers and it's cold, harsh winters.
“I remember that job as if it were just yesterday,” says Mr. Brand. “Identifying the optimal coating was critical. And, clearly, it paid off – as the CBOT hasn’t had an once of rust in those tanks, or paid a penny for their maintenance, in more than 24 years.”
And the list of similar successful, long-term coating applications are a list of who’s who in Chicago: The Shedd Aquarium, The Four Seasons, The Palmer House, One Magnificent Mile, Museum of Science and Industry, etc.
Mr. Brand’s local expertise has found it’s way to the other side of the world, when he worked with Skidmore, Owings and Merrill to specifly the coating system for the interior of all the concrete tanks in the tallest building in the world – The Burj, in Dubai.
