From a 1941 Wind Tunnel to A 2012 Semi-Anechoic Sound Chamber: Modine Tech Center
Modine Manufacturing Company’s Tech Center in Racine, WI.
The Chief Engineer had the privilege to travel north across the great Bears-Packers divide to tour Modine Manufacturing Company’s Tech Center in Racine, WI. Arthur B. Modine founded Modine in 1916 after patenting the Spirex radiator. The company moved to Racine in 1930. The current Tech Center was originally constructed in 1941 to house a wind tunnel to test Modine’s radiators. In 1999, Modine undertook a $30 million dollar renovation and expansion of the testing facility. The newly designed facility was constructed around and over the original wind tunnel, now named Wind Tunnel #1, keeping the original brick building intact.
