Member Spotlight: John Hickey

John Hickey (RIGHT) and his wife, Cheryl, are pictured with Tyler Roney and his family at the St. Baldrick's event at The Blarney Stone.

As some of you may have been wondering why was “John Hickey’s hair getting so long?” Well there is a reason and it is called St. Baldricks which is an event in which you shave your head for charity and all proceeds go to helping cure childhood cancers. This year John ran his own event and shaved his head along with 68 other shavee’s. He ended up raising about $33,000 and over 400 people were in attendance along with Tyler’s family.

They honored a child name Tyler Roney who is a 7 year old boy who has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma. Rhabdomyosarcoma is a type of cancer that arises from the skeletal muscle progenitors. No child or family should ever have to go through what Tyler and his family has gone through, that is why John asked for any help or donations that will help fight childhood cancers.

The event took place on Saturday March 23, 2013 at Blarney Stone Pub 15400 S Cicero, Oak Forest. John had split the pots, raffles and silent auctions during the event along with a few shaved heads.

John thanks everyone for any support they gave so we all can move forward and destroy this disease that one way or another has affected each and every one of us.
