After all the frigid weather we have encountered this winter, it is a great sign to see hints of Spring starting to show. The longer days and slightly warmer temperatures are giving hope that milder weather is just around the corner. As nice as this warmer weather is, this is a challenging time of year for us as Chief Engineers. We still have the possibility of dealing with bouts of winter, snow, and ice, but we also must prepare for the next cooling season. However, we are lucky because we have the support of our Associate Members, who are here to assist us and make the transition easier.
In preparation for Summer, there are many spring maintenance tasks that need to be attended to. The filters in your air handlers should be replaced, cooling towers need to be serviced and cleaned and your dewatering systems should be monitored due to any melting snow and heavy rains we may experience. Your recently updated Quick Shopper is a great resource in this case and can help you quickly locate members to assist with any maintenance needs. In the event that you do work with an Associate Member, please remember to tell them you found them through the Chief Engineers Association.
The board members met in mid-February for the annual retreat to discuss the status of the organization and the plans for the remainder of the year. The committees made presentations regarding the educational meetings, membership, scholarships, and financials. The remaining events for the year were finalized and there are some exciting new changes in store. We are excited for the year ahead!
We have had a great start to the year so far with an educational meeting sponsored by Rose Paving at JC Restoration in January and the 3rd Annual Skatefest in February. Big thanks to the Skatefest sponsors, ABM Facility Services, J&L Cooling Towers, Preservation Services and Restore Restoration. Without your support, the organization would not be able to host such wonderful events. I would also like to thank all the volunteers that helped to make Skatefest a success. There was a lot of hard work that went into this event, and we as an organization, truly appreciate the efforts of our members, as well as their contributing family members.
As we move on into March, we welcome the annual St. Patrick’s Day Meeting on March 20th at the Irish American Heritage Center. This meeting usually brings a large turnout and I look forward to seeing everyone there. I am pleased to announce The Boils will be joining us once again with their authentic Irish music. Also, the Harley Davidson Raffle Tickets will be available for purchase at the March meeting with the drawing taking place at the upcoming May meeting. The donation is $100.00 per ticket and benefits the scholarship fund to aid students attending universities around the country.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the upcoming meetings!
