Apparent Norovirus outbreak hits Stateville.
About 140 inmates at the Stateville Correctional Center in Illinois were sickened with what authorities believe is the Norovirus. Samples were sent to the State lab and officials are awaiting results.

Two burned in boiler explosion at Bates Middle School in Annapolis.
The Bates Middle School in Annapolis was evacuated January 2 after a boiler exploded and injured two employees. The explosion caused minor damage and canceled classes for the rest of the day.

Atlantic City seeks flood protections including seawalls and drainage improvements.
In order to recover from Hurricane Sandy and prevent damage from future storms, Atlantic City officials requested $313 million in funding to cover various construction projects. In additional to new seawalls and bulkheads, Atlantic City also hopes to improve the canal system and escape routes.

Popular office phones vulnerable to eavesdropping hack, researchers say.
Researchers demonstrated vulnerabilities in software utilized by Cisco phone systems and emphasized the phones are open to remote hacking, where the hacker can manipulate the phone into doing whatever they want and covering the trail. Cisco announced they were working on fixing the problem.

8 canal dams may be rebuilt.
In order to prevent additional damage from weather systems like hurricanes Irene and Lee, the federal government stated it would assist New York in rebuilding eight Mohawk River dams along a 40-mile portion of the Erie Canal. The State expects to spend $50 million on the repairs over a 2 year period.
